Weyerhaeuser Company is a forest products company structured as a real estate investment trust, owning and managing timberlands primarily in the United States and Canada, with additional operations in the Pacific Northwest and the South. Its business segments include timberlands, where it grows and harvests softwood trees and sells logs to domestic and export customers, and wood products, which manufactures and distributes lumber, engineered wood products such as oriented strand board and plywood, and other building materials for residential, industrial, and commercial construction. The company also engages in real estate and natural resource activities, including the sale of non-strategic timberlands and development properties. Revenue comes from log and timber sales, wood product manufacturing and distribution, and land transactions. As a REIT, Weyerhaeuser generally avoids federal income tax on timber harvest earnings, while its wood products operations are taxed as a subsidiary.

What the manager wrote
The Fund has identified significant opportunities in the global timber industry, viewing timber as a scarce and needed asset that is undervalued by the markets. The Fund initiated a position in Weyerhaeuser Co, among other timber producers, as they believe these companies are trading at significant discounts to their risk-adjusted intrinsic values. This mispricing presents an opportunity to capitalize on the undervaluation of timber producers.
